Software Developer / C# and .NET / Full stack / Sheffield, UK

I build and support full-stack web applications in C# and .NET, currently at a UK regulator where the software decides how real cases get handled. Three years commercial, comfortable across the backend, the database and the front end.

Experience

Junior Developer

March 2025 to present

Social Work England, Sheffield, United Kingdom

  • Build and maintain features across sprints on a case management system (C#, .NET Core, SQL Server) that handles regulatory cases against social workers. Applying SOLID and design patterns improved backend performance by 18% and cut latency by 20%.
  • Maintain and debug the multi-step public journeys covering registration, concerns raised against registrants, and restoration to the register.
  • Took over a contractor-built Power Apps canvas application that arrived with no future-proofing, then built several new modules and worked through the defect backlog.
  • Traced SharePoint delegation failures past the 2000 record limit, reworked the non-delegable logic and added a Power Automate archival flow to move ageing data out.
  • Automated operational processes with Power Automate and SharePoint Lists, cutting manual effort by 30%, and added structured error logging so silent failures became traceable.
  • Led a jQuery version upgrade end to end: dependency investigation, impact analysis, a technical report for the lead, then dev, lead and QA testing.
  • Root cause analysis on production issues across Azure environments, bringing average resolution time down by 35%, with peer review on every change in a two developer team.

Systems Engineer

August 2021 to August 2023

Tata Consultancy Services, Ahmedabad, India

  • Full-stack delivery on TCS MasterCraft, an enterprise application development platform, owning features from design through to deployment.
  • Built and consumed 10+ REST APIs and 5+ microservices in C#/.NET Core, TypeScript, Node.js and Express, reducing API response time by 15%.
  • Built front ends in TypeScript, React and Redux, using lazy loading and code splitting to improve page load efficiency by 20%.
  • Implemented decoupled, event-driven services over SQL Server and MongoDB with dependency injection, the repository pattern and SOLID principles.
  • Wrote async and multi-threaded processing for throughput-sensitive workloads, and documented every endpoint in Swagger.
  • Automated unit tests (nUnit) and integration tests with strong coverage, plus peer code review across both legacy and modern codebases.

In progress

Mango

.NET 8, Azure Service Bus, Identity Server, Ocelot

An e-commerce microservices application with independently deployable services for products, shopping cart, ordering, payments and email. Services talk over Azure Service Bus, authentication runs through Identity Server, and everything is routed behind an Ocelot API gateway.

Bulky

C#, ASP.NET Core MVC, EF Core, SQL Server

An e-commerce site with user authentication, full CRUD and a responsive front end, built on the repository and unit of work patterns so the data layer stays testable.

Home Security System

React, Node.js, Express, MongoDB, Python

A MERN application wired up to a Python facial recognition script, so the interface reacts to who the camera actually sees.

Simple Job Tracker

Node.js, Express, EJS

A small tracker for job applications, built for my own search and deployed so it is actually usable rather than sat in a repo.

Yelp Camp

Node.js, Express, MongoDB, EJS

A campsite review platform with user accounts, reviews and server-rendered pages, backed by MongoDB.

Burger App

React hooks, Redux, Firebase

A food ordering app where the build-your-own flow drives the state, written with function components and hooks throughout, with orders persisted to Firebase.

Outside of work

Away from the keyboard

Cooking

The thing I actually spend my evenings on. Always working on a new technique, or a cuisine I have not cooked before, and I would rather get it wrong a few times than follow a recipe exactly.

Competitive gaming

Thousands of hours in CS:GO, and at one point I genuinely thought about going pro. It taught me more about staying calm under pressure than anything else has.

Side projects

I build things in my own time to learn a technology properly rather than just read about it. Most of them end up on GitHub, finished or not.

Let's talk about the role

Happy to hear about mid-level developer roles in .NET or full-stack work, whether that is Sheffield, remote, or anywhere else in the UK. Email is quickest, and LinkedIn works just as well.
